Hello, Halloween!

Hello, Halloween!

It’s almost Halloween and Friday the 13th – but not just for the little ones. Older adults can celebrate these holidays just like everyone else! It’s commonplace for those without family to forget about celebrating holidays. That’s where you – their caregiver – come in.

With a little bit of planning the elderly can enjoy these spooky days too! If you’re stuck on what to do on the day of, consider these options:

  • Find a costume! Playing a little dress up will definitely get everyone in the Halloween spirit. If you need a little inspiration, we've found some easy last-minute DIY costumes.

  • Carve a pumpkin. Get a little creative and crafty with this Halloween activity. All you need to do is pick up a pumpkin and carving kit and get to work. Make sure you follow the safety protocols and work together to make sure no one gets injured.

  • Decorate! Nothing can get you in the Halloween spirit faster than spooky decorations! Place a few multi-colored gourds on the table or create your own Halloween wreath for the front door.

  • Story time. If activities aren’t your style, grab a cup of hot cider and a good horror novel. You can read it out loud and act out the voices or simply sit together and enjoy a bit of quiet time.

  • Movie time. Plan a movie day where you have a scary movie marathon! Netflix has a ton of scary movie options for you to check out! Our personal favorites are Young Frankenstein and Hocus Pocus.

  • Trick-or-treat. Find out when trick-or-treating occurs in the neighborhood, then bring over a couple of bags of candy and camp out on the front porch. You’ll both have a great time getting to know your neighbors a bit better while enjoying the kids’ costumes.
