Gear Up for Spring with Your Loved One

After a long, cold winter it is finally almost time for the snow to give way to the flowers that want to poke up from the ground. While the first official day of spring this year is Sunday, March 20, that doesn’t mean you have to wait to get excited about spring.

Here are a few of our favorite ways for seniors and their loved ones to embrace the warmer weather, longer days, and beautiful season ahead:

Get Outside!

Now that the weather is (finally) starting to improve, it is the perfect time to take a trip to your local park. Some of our favorite activities include going for a walk with friends or loved ones, feeding the ducks, and engaging in some light exercise. Check with your local community, there may be some free group exercise classes that you can join as a way to get moving while meeting some new friends.

Start (or Refresh) a Garden

Gardening is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature. Whether you choose to plant flowers or vegetables (or both!) plant a garden that brings you joy. If you opt for fruits and vegetables you can also start brainstorming recipes to enjoy when your crop is ready to harvest. We promise, including ingredients that you grew yourself will make any recipe taste even better!

Visit a Local Farmer’s Market

While many farmer’s markets close for the winter, it is just about time for them to reopen for a new season. Check out Google for a farmer’s market in your area, they are a great way to support local business owners while shopping local produce and artisan items. You’ll also get to enjoy the fresh spring air and might even pick up some delicious spring treats to enjoy.

Spring Cleaning

It’s a time-honored tradition for a reason - cleaning up your home is a great way to shake off the winter blues (and any dust that may have accumulated in the last few months). When you’re done there is nothing better than opening up the windows and getting fresh air into your newly cleaned space.

Whatever you choose to do, we hope that your spring is full of sunshine, smiles, and happy memories with your loved ones!
