You may have heard that Medicare open enrollment is coming up - but what does that mean for you? We’ve compiled a short list of frequently asked questions to help you and your family navigate this time successfully.
What is Medicare and am I eligible?
Medicare is a health insurance plan funded by the federal government that is available to all citizens over 65 years old. Medicare is sometimes confused with Medicaid, another form of healthcare assistance available based on a person’s income rather than their age. You may be eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, but be sure to check as each state has its own regulations on coverage for Medicaid.
When you are about to turn 65 you are able to enroll in Medicare regardless of the time of year. You can enroll up to 3 months before you turn 65, the month of your birthday, or anytime within the 3 months following your 65th birthday. Most people register for Medicare during this initial enrollment window to avoid gaps in coverage or fees from registering later.

Each year all subscribers are eligible to review their current Medicare plan and make adjustments based on their needs. It is important to take this opportunity to review your coverage as you may be able to save money!
When is Medicare Open Enrollment for 2022?
Open enrollment for the 2022 calendar year is October 15, 2021 through December 4, 2021. Changes made during this time period will go into effect on January 1, 2022.
As a Medicare subscriber what do I need to do during open enrollment?
You should receive information in the mail about your current plan and other coverage options. Carefully review these materials and make your selections before the deadline if any changes are necessary.
If you do not wish to make any changes for the upcoming year and the plan you are on is still available, you do not need to do anything. Your plan with automatically renew and your coverage will remain consistent.
