Fun and Festive Fall Activities for Seniors

The leaves are changing and the temperature is finally dropping, which means that fall is finally here! Now is the perfect time to grab your coziest sweater, a mug of your favorite warm beverage of choice, and enjoy the start of cozy season.

Fall is one of our favorite times of the year at Comforting Home Care, and we find that our seniors love to take in the unique joy that autumn brings. Here are a few activities that you can do with the senior in your life to make the most of this time of year.

Enjoy the Beautiful Leaves

This time of year is known for the beautiful landscapes that appear as the leaves begin to change. You don’t even have to travel to get amazing views, you can check them out in your own backyard (although a fall foliage trip does sound like an amazing getaway if you can swing it)! Take a walk through your local park and enjoy the crisp fall air and a few crunchy leaves.

Fall Themed Crafts

Everyone loves a good craft, and this is a great way to boost creativity and bond with your loved one especially if there are young grandchildren to keep busy. Check out your local craft store to see what sparks your interest. You don’t have to be an artist - the most important thing is that you have fun!

Indoor Gardening

Does your loved one love to garden? While gardening is traditionally considered a springtime activity, there is actually plenty of work to be done now that the temperatures are cooling down!

Any potted plant that can’t withstand the colder temperatures should be brought inside when possible. This is also a great opportunity to plant some new indoor plants which will provide fresh air and the welcome sight of green in the winter months to come.

Bake Up Some Fall Favorites

Enjoy the taste of fall with some seasonal treats! Now is the perfect time to break out the family recipe book and whip up Great Aunt Cindy’s famous pumpkin pie or Grandma’s apple turnovers that are absolutely to die for. By revisiting some old family favorites you’re not only celebrating fall, you’re also connecting with the past and all the wonderful memories that come along with it.

These are a few of our favorite fall activities, but feel free to try out your own! Let us know what you are doing to get in the spirit of the season.
