Bring the Magic of the Season to Your Loved One

This time of the year is magical for the young and the young at heart. However, the holidays can be challenging for those dealing with loss, struggling with a disability, or health-related stress.

As a caretaker, you may be wondering how you can make the holidays bright for your loved ones who may not be able to participate in the festivities as they once could. That’s why we’ve put together a few suggestions on how to enjoy the magic of the holidays with loved ones, no matter their current circumstance.

Fireside Story Time

Nothing screams holiday spirit more than cozying up with your loved ones under a blanket next to the fire… maybe with some hot cocoa to share? Spend some time sharing fun & festive memories or retell classic holiday stories next to a crackling fire for the ultimate holiday experience. Don’t have a fireplace? Candles also set the mood, or you can search YouTube for “fireplace videos” to get the ambiance anywhere - no flames required.

Simplify Holiday Meals

The magic of the season comes from spending time with your loved ones, not slaving over the stove to make the perfect meal. Encourage your loved one to get involved in cooking where possible, but if it’s too much stress to cook and plan an entire holiday meal, don’t do it! We promise, By this time next year no one will remember the sweet potato casserole just so, but you can bet your bottom dollar everyone will remember the time spent laughing together. And who knows, scrapping your entire holiday meal plans for Chinese takeout could be everyone’s new favorite tradition!

Prioritize Traditions (or Start New Ones!)

Speaking of traditions, the holidays are the perfect time of year to lean into all of your favorite memories. Take time to reflect on what evokes warm, fuzzy memories for your family, whether that’s baking holiday cookies or driving around to see all of the festive lights. Be sure to prioritize things that have been a tried and true favorite for years but also don’t be afraid to start a new tradition if something doesn’t suit your needs anymore.

No matter how you spend the holidays we hope that you’re surrounded by people you love. From all of us at Comforting Home Care, we wish you and yours health and happiness this holiday season.
